Uronate dehydrogenase

Definition:

EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.1 Acting on the CH-OH group of donors > 1.1.1 With NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor > 1.1.1.203 uronate dehydrogenase
Uronate dehydrogenase requires Mg2+ and, characterized from Agrobacterium fabrum, participates in the oxidative degradation of galacturonate and glucuronate; it accepts only the β anomeric form of the substrate, and the 1,5-lactone product is rather stable at cytosolic pH. Using NAD+, it oxidizes β-D-galacturonate to D-galactaro-1,5-lactone and β-D-glucuronate to D-glucaro-1,5-lactone, in each case reducing NAD+ to NADH and releasing H+.
