Versatile peroxidase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.11 Acting on a peroxide as acceptor > 1.11.1 Peroxidases > 1.11.1.16 versatile peroxidase
Versatile peroxidase is a heme ligninolytic peroxidase combining the substrate specificities of manganese peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.13) and lignin peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.14). Uniquely, it also oxidizes phenols, hydroquinones and both low- and high-redox-potential dyes. With H2O2 it cleaves β-O-4 lignin model dimers and oxidizes 2 Mn(II) to 2 Mn(III), yielding 2 H2O.
