Pseudolysin is a zinc metalloendopeptidase in peptidase family M4 from the pathogenic bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Legionella pneumophila, causing tissue damage. It hydrolyzes proteins including elastin, collagen types III and IV, fibronectin and IgA, generally with a bulky hydrophobic group at P1'; the insulin B chain cleavage pattern is identical to thermolysin but specificity differs elsewhere. In pathogens it degrades host tissues and immune proteins. It features a thermolysin-like zinc catalytic fold.
