Violacein synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.14 Acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen > 1.14.13 With NADH or NADPH as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen into the other donor > 1.14.13.224 violacein synthase
Violacein synthase from Chromobacterium violaceum participates in violacein biosynthesis; its products violaceinate and deoxyviolaceinate undergo non-enzymic autooxidation to violacein and deoxyviolacein. It converts protodeoxyviolaceinate to deoxyviolaceinate and protoviolaceinate to violaceinate with NAD(P)H and O2, releasing H2O.
