Xanthoxin dehydrogenase

Definition:

EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.1 Acting on the CH-OH group of donors > 1.1.1 With NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor > 1.1.1.288 xanthoxin dehydrogenase
Xanthoxin dehydrogenase requires a molybdenum cofactor for activity; NADP+ cannot replace NAD+ and short-chain alcohols such as ethanol, isopropanol, butanol and cyclohexanol cannot replace xanthoxin as substrate. Together with downstream enzymes it participates in the abscisic acid biosynthesis pathway in plants. Using NAD+, it oxidizes xanthoxin to abscisic aldehyde, concomitantly reducing NAD+ to NADH and releasing H+.
