Yapsin 1
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.23 Aspartic endopeptidases > 3.4.23.41 yapsin 1
Yapsin 1 (Yapsin1) is a yeast aspartic endopeptidase in peptidase family A1 of pepsin, weakly inhibited by pepstatin and able to partially substitute for kexin in a deficient yeast strain; the homologous Mkc7 product in Saccharomyces cerevisiae has similar activity and is termed yapsin 2. It hydrolyzes various precursor proteins with Arg or Lys at P1, commonly also Arg or Lys at P2; the P3 amino acid is usually non-polar, and additional basic residues are favorable in both non-prime and prime positions. In the yeast secretory pathway it processes prohormones and cell-surface proteins at paired basic sites. It features a pepsin-like aspartic-protease fold.
