Biological Activity: Divarin (5-Propylbenzene-1,3-diol) is an important precursor and intermediate in the synthesis of cannabinoids, and is present in certain bacteria and lichens. Divarin exhibits antioxidant activity. Divarin acts as an electron acceptor to directly scavenge superoxide anions and modulates the transcription of oxidative stress genes such as soxS, thereby enhancing bacterial resistance to late-stage reactive oxygen species (ROS) through a non-enzymatic mechanism. Divarin can be used in research on antioxidant development[1][2].
