Nepetalactone
Based on 1 publication(s) in Google Scholar
Nepetalactone is a TRPA1 agonist (EC50 = 172.5-698.4 μM) and antibacterial agent that can be present in the essential oils of Nepeta crispa and Nepeta rtanjensis. Nepetalactone activates TRPA1 orthologs through a conserved cysteine-rich CVT motif, triggering calcium influx, thereby driving pest aversion through PKCα and attracting predators through CaMKII, and can suppress pests in the field. Nepetalactone inhibits bacterial and fungal biofilms and produces additive interactions with 1,5,9-eDLA and RA. Nepetalactone induces ROS production in macrophages. Nepetalactone can be used in research related to foodborne infections, pest control, and bacterial and fungal infections.

Nepetalactone (10 μM-1 mM; 10 min) elicits a sustained avoidance response in C. chinensis, D. citri, and M. usitatus in Y-tube olfactometer assays[1].
Nepetalactone activates the TRPA1 orthologs CcTRPA1, DcTRPA1, and MuTRPA1 in HEK293T cells, with EC50 values of 283.0 μM, 698.4 μM, and 172.5 μM, respectively[1].
Nepetalactone (100 μM; 48 h) induces synergistic Ca2+ influx in HEK293T cells co-transfected with CcTRPA1 + CcPKCα or HaTRPA1 + HaCaMKII[1].
Nepetalactone (100 μM; 10 min) induces a physical interaction between CcTRPA1 and CcPKCα and triggers calcium-dependent CcPKCα phosphorylation in HEK293T cells[1].
Nepetalactone (100 μM; 10 min) induces a physical interaction between HaTRPA1 and HaCaMKII in HEK293T cells and triggers calcium-dependent HaCaMKII phosphorylation[1].
Nepetalactone (100 μM; 300 ms pulse) activates TRPA1-expressing trichoid sensilla in C. chinensis, D. citri, and M. usitatus, and this response is eliminated by TRPA1 knockdown and attenuated by CcPKCα silencing[1].
Nepetalactone (100 μM-10 mM) exhibits concentration-dependent attraction to H. axyridis and P. japonica, and this attraction is mediated by TRPA1[1].
Nepetalactone induces calcium influx in HEK293T cells expressing HaTRPA1 or PjTRPA1[1].
Nepetalactones are present in the essential oil of Nepeta crispa Willd., with a total content of 5.29% as determined by GC/MS analysis[3].
