Buthidazole (VEL-5026) is a Herbicide. Buthidazole targets photosynthesis as its most sensitive and first-inhibited process, and inhibits RNA synthesis, lipid synthesis, and anthocyanin biosynthesis, while transiently stimulating dark respiration. Buthidazole reduces or prevents starch accumulation in bundle sheath chloroplasts, causing swelling and ultrastructural damage of mesophyll chloroplasts. Buthidazole damages corn seedlings at high doses .
