Simmon's Citrate Agar
Simmon's Citrate Agar is a synthetic differential medium that uses sodium citrate as the sole carbon source. Simmon's Citrate Agar can determine the ability of bacteria to utilize citrate as a carbon source. Bacterial metabolism of citrate produces bicarbonate, which causes bromothymol blue to change from blue to deep blue. Simmon's Citrate Agar can be used for bacterial identification and isolation-related research.

Biological Activity
Description
In Vitro
Simmon's Citrate Agar supports colicin production in 28 of 73 colicinogenic strains, among which colicine I, colicine G, and S5 strains consistently fail to produce colicin in this synthetic medium, whereas colicines V, K, X, D, and F produce large inhibition zones[2].
MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.
