N-Hydroxy sulfamethoxazole
Based on 1 Customer Validation
N-Hydroxy sulfamethoxazole (Sulfamethoxazole hydroxylamine) is a Sulfamethoxazole (HY-B0322) metabolite formed by CYP2C9 oxidation that oxidizes hemoglobin to methemoglobin. N-Hydroxy sulfamethoxazole induces haptenation on the surface of viable leukocytes, neutrophil apoptosis, and inhibits neutrophil function. N-Hydroxy sulfamethoxazole is associated with hypersensitivity reactions and can be used in the study of hypersensitivity reactions.

Biological Activity
Description
In Vitro
N-Hydroxy sulfamethoxazole (30 µM; 1 h) is reduced to SMX by human peripheral blood components, with red blood cells showing the highest reduction (12.1% at 30 µM after 1 h)[1].
N-Hydroxy sulfamethoxazole (1-400 µM; 1 h) depletes glutathione in human lymphocytes and cysteine in plasma, while not depleting glutathione in intact neutrophils up to 400 µM[1].
N-Hydroxy sulfamethoxazole (30-100 µM) induces concentration-dependent methaemoglobin formation in human red blood cells, reaching 26.1% at 100 µM[1].
