7-Methyl-DL-tryptophan (7-Methyltryptophan) is an anthranilate synthase inhibitor that inhibits tryptophan biosynthesis. 7-Methyl-DL-tryptophan is also a tryptophan analog. 7-Methyl-DL-tryptophan can cause growth inhibition in tobacco, whereas a feedback-insensitive anthranilate synthase confers resistance and can be used as a selective agent to recover transgenic tobacco plants expressing this enzyme .

5-Methyl-DL-tryptophan is an orally active amino acid derivative with anti-inflammatory signaling effects. 5-Methyl-DL-tryptophan inhibits TLR4/MyD88 signaling and NF-κB activation/phosphorylation, reduces IL-6/IL-1β/TNF-α, and decreases the p-p65/p65 ratio. 5-Methyl-DL-tryptophan inhibits anthranilate synthase (Ki = 13 μM). 5-Methyl-DL-tryptophan inhibits bacterial growth. 5-Methyl-DL-tryptophan can be used in research on ulcerative colitis .

Methyl N-methylanthranilate-d3 is the deuterated-labeled Methyl N-methylanthranilate (HY-76705). Methyl N-methylanthranilate is an N-alkylated anthranilate with a sweet citrus aroma, which is commonly used in perfume manufacturing. Methyl N-methylanthranilate is the dominant component in the defensive secretion of the millipede Typhloiulus orpheus. Methyl N-methylanthranilate exhibits quorum sensing inhibition and anti-biofilm activity against P. aeruginosa; it interferes with PQS synthesis via competitive inhibition of PqsA, but lacks bactericidal activity. Methyl N-methylanthranilate is sensitive to UVA/sunlight in human skin cells, and generates O2• - through type I photodynamic reactions, leading to lysosomal/mitochondrial damage, double-strand DNA breaks and apoptosis, with potential phototoxicity .
