Biological Activity: Human β-defensin-2 (HβD-2) is an orally active, cysteine-rich antimicrobial peptide secreted by epithelial cells, with antibacterial, antiviral, and immunomodulatory activities. Human β-defensin-2 binds to CCR2, reduces NF-κB phosphorylation, increases CREB phosphorylation, inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines, induces IL-10, and chemotaxes immune cells through CCR2/CCR6. Human β-defensin-2 reduces smoke-induced neutrophil influx in mouse lungs, downregulates pulmonary pro-inflammatory signaling, promotes bacterial clearance, and improves colitis and asthma cytokine/lung resistance. Human β-defensin-2 can be used in research related to diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, bacterial infections, viral infections, and atopic asthma[1][2][3][4][5].
